Use dedicated night caregiver device

Why a Dedicated Night Device Saves Lives

During the night, you need immediate, loud alerts if a seizure occurs—but you cannot afford to be woken up by random emails, app updates, or group chats. Using a repurposed older smartphone dedicated exclusively to night monitoring ensures you eliminate alert fatigue while keeping high-priority safety alarms fully active.

1

Device Preparation & App Purge

Find any old, spare smartphone (Android or iOS) that can reliably connect to your home Wi-Fi network. To optimize operating system stability and remove background background noise:

Uninstall all non-essential applications (Facebook, Instagram, News, Mail clients, Games).
• Remove the physical SIM card if it's no longer actively tied to a cell plan; the phone only requires a stable, uninterrupted home Wi-Fi connection to process SeizAware tracking data.

2

System-Level Notification Lockdown

You must prevent the phone's native system apps from making noise. Choose one of the two methods below to fully isolate the device:

Method A: Manual App Silencing (Recommended)
Go to your phone's central Settings > Apps & Notifications > See All Apps. Tap on every remaining native app (Chrome/Safari, Calendar, System Updates, Google services) and toggle Allow Notifications to OFF. Leave only Telegram and your browser enabled.

Method B: "Do Not Disturb" Whitelisting
Turn on the phone's native Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. Go into the DND exception settings and modify the whitelist to block all calls, messages, and app alerts except for Telegram. Set DND to run permanently.

3

Set Up a Dedicated Telegram Account

If you use your primary personal Telegram account on the night phone, group chats or casual messages will wake you up. Creating a dedicated profile ensures 100% silence.

1. Install Telegram on the night device.
2. Register using a secondary phone number (this can be a cheap prepaid SIM, a landline, or a family member's number who doesn't use Telegram).
3. Note: The SIM card only needs to be active long enough to receive the initial 5-digit verification SMS code. Once logged in, Telegram functions completely over Wi-Fi without needing the SIM card inside the device.

4

Isolate the SeizureAlerting Bot

Once your dedicated account is live, you must shut off global Telegram interactions so only the monitoring bot can trigger ringtones.

1. Open Telegram, use the top search bar, and find your designated SeizureAlerting bot, then press Start to link it.
2. Go to Telegram Settings > Notifications and Sounds.
3. Under the "Chats" section, turn OFF notifications globally for: Private Chats, Groups, and Channels.
4. Now, go back to your chat window with the SeizureAlerting bot. Tap the bot's header name, navigate to its specific Notification settings, select Custom Notifications, and toggle them to Enabled.
5. Set the alert tone to a loud, distinct alarm sound that will reliably wake you up in an emergency.

5

Perform a Mandatory Live Test

Never put the system into active duty overnight without conducting a validation check first:

• Activate watch app and mimic seizures-like shaking until you notice alert in the app.
• Confirm that the night device rings loudly, immediately, and successfully bypasses all phone sleep settings.
